Head slays Scotland in rapid Australia T20 win

Travis Head Powers Australia to Swift T20 Victory Over Scotland

EDINBURGH: Australian opener Travis Head hits a six in front of Scotland wicket-keeper Matthew Cross during the first Twenty20 International at the Grange Cricket Club on Wednesday

EDINBURGH:

It was a dazzling display of batting as Travis Head took center stage in Australia’s T20 clash against Scotland, leading his team to a rapid victory in Edinburgh. Head’s explosive 80 off just 25 balls was the highlight of Australia’s chase, as they easily reached Scotland’s total of 154 with more than half the overs to spare.

Head was in sensational form, blasting five sixes and 12 fours. His fiery performance helped Australia set a record for the highest-ever T20 international powerplay score, racking up an impressive 113/1 in the first six overs.

Despite a shaky start with Jake Fraser-McGurk falling for a duck on the very first ball, Head and captain Mitchell Marsh quickly turned the tide. Marsh hit a blistering 30 off just one over from Jack Jarvis, while Head reached his half-century in just 17 balls.

Both Head and Marsh were eventually dismissed by Mark Watt in the seventh over, but by then, the damage was well and truly done. Wicket-keeper Josh Inglis stepped up to finish the job with an unbeaten 27, guiding Australia to a comfortable seven-wicket win with 62 balls to spare.

Earlier, Scotland’s George Munsey was their top scorer with 28, but it wasn’t enough to withstand Australia’s power-packed chase. Sean Abbott was the standout bowler for Australia, claiming three wickets for 39 runs.

Scores at a glance:

Scotland: 154 for 9 in 20 overs (G. Munsey 28; S. Abbott 3-39)

Australia: 156 for 3 in 9.4 overs (T. Head 80, M. Marsh 39; M. Watt 2-13)

With a performance like this, Australia is certainly making waves in the T20 circuit.
